Research and Planning
For research all we needed was the original video as we were making a remake so needed it to refer back to and mimic. For research I looked at the previous years remake to this task. It was good as it gave me ideas for my own section however they did it a bit differently as they didn't particularly copy/mimic the original music video. We also planned the time and place where we can shoot. We aimed to film during the afternoon when the sun was out because the colour were emphasized and made the footage more joyful and vibrant.
Conventions for AS
The Camera editing had to be mimicking the one in the original video. I believe that this was achieved to an extent, however due the the time we had and the fact we had no 'money' to do smooth camera movements, did make it look a tad worse than the original.
The themes in this music video were already given us so all we had to do was to portray a similar theme. It was a fun video full of people jumping around.
The Mise-en-scene in our production was pretty casual. We wanted to emphasise the element of clothes and fashion as the song is named thrift shop.the whole first section which I was appointed had natural lighting so I had to ensure that all the shots I took were in the day. For example the shots below are both taken in natural lighting.
The narrative in my section of the video only included shots of the artist and many people behind them. We just had to ensure that we followed the same narrative. It had a bunch of people trying to look cool in charity clothes so we used the same type of narrative by having a group (image above) walking towards the camera, thinking they are cool. Sound- we were given the time code of the song that we had and had to work on that. In this case we had to ensure that cuts and every shot were to the beat of the song.
Creativity
Creativity Symbols of a given domain- I ensured that I stayed within the boundaries and rules of what is acceptable to do in my production according to my brief. I ensured that I kept to this because I wanted to make sure that I could achieve maximum marks because I have learnt from the past that trying to go against the brief can cause a penalization of points. We attempted to be creative by making the 'Singer' sit on a bin instead of a scooter as it was unable to find at the time, so we worked around it. I think that we attempted something that was different however it is still acceptable.
Has a new Idea or sees a new pattern- I love music so I ensured that I had displayed my flair for it by displaying the musical side and showing my knowledge of music videos. However we clearly got our inspiration from the original video.
Selected by the appropriate field for inclusion- throughout my coursework I ensured that I had always shown my teacher everything that I did. I did this by giving in work before deadlines to make improvements. The video itself is a really colourful and creative so me and my partner had to ensure that we portrayed the same sort of vibe.
Post Production
Post production was important in this section. We payed great attention to ensure that our cuts were slick and as similar as it could be to the original. I believe that the footage we took is similar to an extent. I have made my editing aspect of my production more precise and slick to ensure that the video style remake looked as professional as possible. For post production all we had to ensure was that the music of the section we were given was working and the footage was correlating with the beat. We didn't include any type of graphics or still images because none were present in the section we were given. An example of how we made sure our shots were mimicking each other is displayed below. We were unable to use a scooter handlebar so we made our 'Macklemore' character sit on a bin. Even though the object is different, the shot is very similar.
Digital Technology
Hardware- Some hardware equipment I used include; a camera, mac and memory card. I am more aware of how to use this technology and can use it with ease.
Software- Some software programmes I used include Final Cut express. This allowed me to edit my footage to make it look like the original video. The original of this shot below was taken too far. So in order to correct it I used Final Cut express which allowed me to crop the shot to make it look a bit more nice.
Online- Some websites I used include blogger and YouTube. I used final cut express (an editing programme) for the first time and it has definitely expanded my knowledge and skills in the editing aspect of the production section. I can now cut and my footage more precisely for a slick and professional ending to my product.
